Why do you coach?
I enjoy physical fitness and teaching. I have a lot of experience in physical exercise, fitness, and competition as athlete and a coach, and I want to share it.
What do you love about coaching?
Seeing progression and success! Watching someone learn to kip a pull up, develop a skill, or PR is just as exciting for me as it is for the athlete. I just want to be a part of their success.
What’s your coaching pet peeve?
I like to think I am a pretty laid back coach. But when someone leaves after finishing their WOD and not cheering on the rest of the class to finish is definitely a pet peeve. The reason we are CrossFitters is to be a part of the community and to motivate one another, otherwise Planet Fitness is a much cheaper option.
What’s your favorite/least favorite move to coach? (and why)
I love coaching Olympic Lifting! The snatch and clean & jerk are fun to coach because they are challenging but very rewarding.
Burpees are my least favorite. They are boring to coach, “Lay down and jump in the air”. Not much to instruct. Plus, everyone hates you after you announce they are in the workout.
What do you do outside of coaching- for a living and for fun?
I am a full time professional student and I wish it could stay that way forever. I am a medical student at SCNM, the naturopathic medical school in Tempe. But on the weekend when I am not studying, I will be outdoors, hiking, or looking for an adventure.
